UBC: Unending Building Construction
enochliew:

Structural members that challenge the limitations and preconceptions of timber.
(source)
We have too much timber or something. I blame the Forestry building for starting this trend at UBC: everything built in the past decade consists of the timber–steel–glass trinity.

Why nobody wrote about Vic Toews’ divorce →
We need politicians to act as our representatives, and while they are well paid and so on, it’s a tough life, and I’m not sure it is good for the country to make it tougher, except when their private lives somehow affect their work. When that is the case, journalists do invade the privacy of politicians. But there has to be a reason, and you have to weigh the importance of the story.

When I was 19 I married my high school sweetheart. He had never hit me in anyway. Never had yelled at me. He was in the Navy and we moved nearly 1000 miles away from home. We had been married one week when he first slapped me. I forgave him. We had been married about a year when he first punched me in the stomach. I forgave...

Life of a Cellist
pay4abortion: as a cellist i can confirm no one ever knows our name.
deltrois: Pachelbel knew a cellist’s name, and apparently she dissed him real bad; that’s why he wrote such a god-awful cello part for Pachelbel’s cannon [sic] in D. I don’t even know his first name.
pay4abortion: HATE those 8 notes.
I can relate all too well.

Userscript: Pixiv Lazier →
Adds direct links to full-size image (arrow link beside image name).
Also adds a list of all images on the current page in the format “numerical id/name/artist” to a panel at the bottom of each page, so you can easily copy-and-paste it into a file for remembering where all your saved images are from.
Based on Pixiv Lazy, which doesn’t work any more.

Userstyle: Compactify New Delicious →
I missed the old compact Delicious layout, so I decided to fix it myself. This userstyle reduces font size and makes text darker (= more readable), make link actions (share/delete/edit) always shown, and hides user icons in link descriptions.
Install with Stylish.

What would Earth be like to us if it were a cube... →
What’s really cool is that the cube-Earth would have 6 completely isolated regions. There’s no good reason, beyond some kind of “local panspermia”, for the life on each face to be related to the life on each of the other faces. If the biospheres took different routes you could even have a nitrogen/oxygen atmosphere on some faces (like we have) and a hydrogen/nitrogen/carbon-dioxide atmosphere...

Why Girls Are Liking Shonen Manga →
chaizer:
But what I really hate about this article is the fact that, not only is it incredibly under-researched and jumps to conclusions by pushing assumptions by the writer (who is likely male??) on all females, it does the thing I hate most: generalize shoujo manga as some boring-ass genre that is only ever romance and ~feelings~ while holding shounen manga up as this holy grail genre that...
